Hello, although its says 'about us' it's actually all about me (that sounds awful!) as Flower Moments is owned and run on a day to day basis by myself, Natalie.
Sounds cheesy but I always wanted to be a florist. Since I was small. I have memories of playing with flowers, making 'Blue Peter' ones from loo roll and hair grips - yes it's possible! Enjoying local flower shows, in awe of the wonderful arrangements and sweet peas in warm summer tents.
I did GCSE's and A levels and then I was off to uni at De Montfort University Riseholme to study for an HND in Floristry Management and Interior Styling. I had found my career, was awarded top student for my year and I graduated in 1997. I then went straight into a florists gaining valuable shop experience. I worked in established businesses with different floristry styles, enhancing my skills and knowledge.
I had a career break to explore another vocation, during which I still found myself drawn back to flowers and I bought Flower Moments back at the beginning of January 2014, taking over the scissors from Charlene.
I love working in an environment surrounded by beautiful things - it's no wonder Florists are amongst the happiest workers! Working for yourself is not easy and I seem to eat, sleep and think flowers most of the time. There is always something to do from the boring to the essential to the most enjoyable - the creative parts. It is always a pleasure to be in the shop no matter what time of year, embracing the seasons and the changing styles and moods in the shop.
And what do I like on the flower scene? Well that's a difficult one as all flowers are beautiful and can shine in the right environment. In the shop I so often hear 'I don't like carnations or chrysanths' but I think these are too often thought of in gaudy colours, in mixed bunches in buckets. They are far more than that and are available in wonderful hues and tones - for something to last they can't be beaten.
Personally, here's a few just off the top of my head. The wonderful anthurium, yes they look plastic but wow. Sweet peas of any colour just for the aroma......mmmm....... I'll also have to chuck in foxgloves, peonies, singapore orchids, snapdragons, alchemilla, aquilegia, viburnum, physalis, pussy willow, tulips, astrantia and......and.......and...... but I suppose my favourite - a gloriosa lily - simply stunning. I don't tend to have them in the shop as I find they are quite short lived but I do buy them on the odd occasion, a few stems - just for me!
And out of the shop? Well I live with my 'other half' who I met when I was at Uni. so I have known more life with him than without! He helps at busy times in the shop with deliveries so some of you will have seen him. I have the company of a cat and two dogs (who you'll see at the shop from time to time) to enjoy and a campervan for stolen weekends away. We have a large garden and I love to potter when given the chance - and weather. I would love to say I grow my own flowers but that is just a dream - not enough hours in the day!
Shop ethics, well I aim, here at Flower Moments, to provide you with a professional and friendly flower service using the freshest, high quality materials available. I believe in supporting my local community, businesses and good causes wherever possible.
So why not give me a call and let me help you with whatever 'flower moment' you are having!
